U9 Orange State takes 2nd at the Home Run Classic Tournament

The Lannon Stonemen 9U Orange State finished as runner-up in the Home Run Classic held June 1-2, 2019. Eight teams from the Milwaukee area and beyond battled it out over the two day tournament hosted at the YMCA at Pabst Farms in Oconomowoc, WI. During pool play the Stonemen handled Union Grove Bronco Select Black with a 16-9 finish, but fell to the Oak Creek Storm 2-8 at the hands of a dominant pitcher from that club. During bracket play, the Stonemen barely edged out the Whitefish Bay Jr. Dukes 5-4 to advance to a game against the Hamilton Jr Chargers White club. The Stonemen, with reliable pitching and aggressive base running was able to advance past the Jr Chargers with 13-5 score. The championship game was set, with the team coming out of the other side of the bracket as the Oak Creek Storm, setting up the Stonemen for a rematch of their pool play loss. The Stonemen would face off against the same pitcher that they faced in their pool play game. After the top of the 4th inning the Stonemen where leading with a score of 6-5, but the by the bottom of the 4th the lead and slipped away with the Storm pushing across three runs to take the lead 8-6. The Stonemen’s bats went cold in the top of the 5th with no runs across and the Storm kept their foot on the gas running three more runs to widen their lead to 11-6. With one more chance to rally in the top of the 6th, the Stonemen were at the top of their order, and put two balls in play, but great fielding by the Storm shut down the rally and the game ended with a 11-6 final due to time.
