Club Updates June 2019

By President, 06/19/19, 9:15PM CDT

Lannon Stonemen Parents,

I hope everyone is excited that school is out and that the weather is slowly warming up.  I wanted to provide a quick update on a few things as June is going by very fast:

  1. This Season Update: As of this morning we are 71-60 overall in our three leagues (WBA, WYSBL and MAJORS).  A goal of ours is to stay at or slightly above .500 as that usually represents playing competitive teams keeping development high for our kids.  We also have 3 tournament wins so far this year with hopefully at least 3 more yet to come.

  2. High School: We continue to have interest at the high school level and like last year we are fielding two teams that will play their home games on Joecks Field.

  3. Hit-a-Thon: The event was a huge success and initial indications are that the teams surpassed the fundraising volume that was achieved in 2018.  Thanks for everyone’s help, especially the coaches and parents on the U11 teams. We couldn’t have done it without you, and I can’t wait to hear where you are going next year!

  4. Lions Daze Parade: The parade is Sunday, July 14th at 10:30am.  This year we are going to mix it up a bit.  We will have 1-2 fun cars, but we are hoping the kids bring their bike or scooter to ride along with the cars.  Other takeaways are that parents are welcome to walk in the parade, no alcohol during the route, we cannot throw candy this year (our arms are too good), wear lots of orange and blue, and help pass out tryout flyers to kids along the route.  More details to come as the event gets closer.

  5. Squirts: This will be the fourth year that we have run the Squirts Academy for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 8.  The focus of this Academy is development and is a way to help those players who are merely exploring the game or looking for further development.  If you have a player in this age range or know of anyone who may be interested, please share this link with them. The cost is only $75, you get a cool hat and shirt, and you get some great coaching and development.

  6. Fields: I want to thank Bob Schultz again for all his efforts this year.  If you haven’t noticed, our three fields are considerably nicer than any other natural grass fields in Southeast Wisconsin.  I regularly get compliments from parents, umpires and our opponents on how nice they look and play. In addition, the new batting cage near Schneider Field is amazing!  This batting cage is our way of directly putting fees and fundraising dollars back towards the development of our players.

  7. Next Season Update:

    1. Parent Meeting: We are hosting an annual parent meeting on Sunday, July 7th at 6:00pm at the Joecks Field bleachers.  This meeting is to go over our program, provide an update on teams and coaches, discuss the tryout process and leave time to answer any questions.  Following the parent meeting is our monthly board meeting which will be at the Thirsty Duck at 7:30pm. Parents are always welcome.

    2. Tryouts: Tryout dates are posted on our website and are Sunday, July 21st at 4:00pm and Monday, July 22nd at 6:00pm.  In case of rain Tuesday, July 23rd at 6:00pm will be our makeup date.  All players, even returning players, need to register so please go out to the following link to ensure your player gets registered:

    3. Fees: Fees for the 2019-2020 season are increasing.  We charged $525 per player for the 2018-2019 season but our actual costs came in at $527 per player.  Costs are increasing for almost everything, but the main drivers are indoor time, league fees, tournament fees, uniforms, and umpires.  We have some creative ways to minimize some of the increases, but we also want to put your money back into development. Fees for the 2019-2020 season will be $625 and upon offer acceptance, $200 will be required.  These fees are still at or below similar select organizations in the area, and we still estimate to be at a break-even position like year's past.

Thanks for making the Lannon Stonemen a great organization to be a part of and stay tuned for more information!
